I stepped off of my time machine in 38000 BC, and discovered myself to be near an encampment of nomadic hunter-gatherers. As I came closer, I was immediately surrounded by a group of six other people.
"We are the comittee", they said. "We keep the order."
"The committee of what?", I asked. They pointed me to the stone tablet they were holding.
"You see", one of them said, "the stone tablet is called the Great Code. It is the knowledge of the world. We created this code and this code will last through all time. It speaks of how to protect the planet from evil spirits, of how to carve ordinary rocks into useful tools, and how to measure and maintain the balance between good and evil."
"We are the Committee of Rocks and Measures," they said in unison.
"What business have you here, now? It is custom for visitors to give gifts to the Committee." one said.
"I am a traveller from a far-off land," I said, "and I don't have much for a gift - though if you can provide me with some water, I can brew you a strong potion that will feel good to your bodies". I pulled an instant coffee packet out of my bag.
They very much enjoyed the coffee I made, and I became a friend of the tribe. I asked them if they knew how to play chess. They said no, and so I taught them how. Below is the game I played against Ugg, from the Committee of Rocks & Measures:
